Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of individuals working in a range of agribusiness leadership or consulting roles. The role reflects the need for agribusiness specific expertise in planning and analysis, managing supply chains, financial and human resource management together with an emphasis on return on investment.

At this level, workers utilise significant theoretical agribusiness knowledge and provide leadership and strategic direction across multiple enterprises.

Agribusiness leaders and consultants analyse, design and execute judgements using wide-ranging technical, conceptual and managerial competencies. Their knowledge base may be highly specialised or broad within the agribusiness field. These individuals are often accountable for group outcomes and for the overall performance of agricultural or horticultural production enterprises.

Career Outcomes

Farmer

Farmers work their own land or a leased property, carrying out a full range of business and practical duties to ensure the success of the enterprise. They establish and maintain crops and/or herds; plan farming strategies and operations; maintain the property's land and infrastructure; hire and manage staff; buy and sell stock and produce; and manage the business. They may specialise in a particular crop, product or animal, or run mixed enterprises.

General Manager (Agribusiness)

General Managers (Agribusiness) apply substantial specialised knowledge and skills to the senior managerial and leadership role in their agribusiness organisation. They generate and evaluate complex ideas, and initiate, design and execute the major planning, research, design, operational, compliance and management functions within highly varied or specialised agribusiness contexts.

Rural Business Worker

Rural Business Workers perform administrative and financial duties for agricultural businesses. They keep records of animals and produce, and other primary production business records. They may be involved in selling, customer services, and emergency response.

Rural Production Manager

Rural Production Managers take an operational overview and ensure rural operations are successfully managed and carried out. They analyse business and production performance and implement improvements. They develop risk-management, production and marketing strategies.
