This qualification reflects the role of frontline retail team members who use a defined and limited range of operational skills to undertake workplace activities. They are involved in mainly routine and repetitive tasks and work under direct supervision of others.
This qualification provides a pathway to work in a diverse range of retail settings including specialty retailers, supermarkets, department stores and quick service restaurants.
Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles such as frontline team member, customer service assistant and point-of-sale operator.

Career Outcomes
Cashier
Cashiers receive and disburse money in establishments other than financial institutions. They are often involved in processing credit or debit card transactions and validating cheques.
Retail Liquor Outlet Attendant
Retail Liquor Outlet Attendants’ duties include retail liquor sales, customer service, operating point of sale equipment, merchandising, processing financial transactions and the responsible selling of alcohol.
Food Sales Assistant (Fast Food Outlets)
Food Sales Assistants work in fast food outlets, preparing and selling a variety of fast foods. They may prepare the food or work as register operators, check stores, replenish stock and maintain hygienic work areas.
Retail Assistant
Retail Assistants undertake a range of activities selling products and/or services in retail settings such as department stores, speciality shops, supermarkets and newsagencies. They may operate a checkout area; apply point-of-sale handling procedures; rotate and replenish stock and stack shelves; and organise and maintain work areas and displays.
Customer service assistant
Assists in addressing the needs of customers; promotion of programs, services and facilities; and responds to conflict and customer complaints.
