Mechanical Engineering Tradesperson

Mechanical Engineering Tradespeople carry out mechanical work on machines, sub-assemblies and manufactured parts using a range of processes, tools and machines. As Mechanical Fitters, they maintain and repair mechanical plant and equipment. As Metal Machinists, they cut shape and form metal to produce metal components to specification. They can also combine advanced mechanical fitting and metal machining skills, to specialise as Fitter Machinists.

Maintenance Fitter

Maintenance Fitters maintain, overhaul and repair machinery and equipment. They fit and assemble parts and sub-assemblies made from metal and other materials to make production machinery and other equipment. Advanced Fitters with metal machinist skills may specialise as Fitter Machinists.

Steam Generation / Boilerhouse Operator (Pulp and Paper)

Steam Generation / Boilerhouse Operators manage steam boiler start up and shutdown and stoke steam boilers in the pulp and paper industry.

Knitting Mechanic

Knitting Mechanics prepare patterning equipment that controls automatic knitting machines to produce a variety of knitted fabric.

Plant Service and Maintenance Operator (Quarry)

Plant Service and Maintenance Operators service and maintain mobile and fixed quarrying machinery, including graders, trucks, crushers and conveyor belts. At senior levels, they may have leadership responsibilities.

Sewing Machine Mechanic

Sewing Machine Mechanics assemble, adjust, lubricate and repair industrial sewing machines.

Electrical Instrumentation Tradesperson

Electrical Instrumentation Tradespeople assemble, install, modify, maintain and repair instruments and systems which measure and control variables such as temperature, pressure and flow. Instrumentation may include weighing or analysis devices, process control systems, and scientific or laboratory equipment.

Tufting Mechanic

Tufting Mechanics set up, adjust and maintain machines that produce tufted carpet.

Maintenance Mechanic

Maintenance Mechanics maintain, repair and manufacture mechanical components, plant and equipment to operational standards.

Textiles Mechanic

Textiles Mechanics set up, adjust and maintain the machines used in the textile, clothing and footwear manufacturing industries. They are often textile production operators with additional mechanical skills. They perform basic set up, change over, maintenance and non heavy engineering-related repair of equipment.

Weaving Mechanic

Weaving Mechanics set up, adjust and maintain machines that convert yarns into fabrics.

Pumpman

Pumpmen operate and maintain mud pits and pumps on off-shore oil or gas rigs. They may also provide assistance to the Derrickman when required.

Motorman

Motormen work on off-shore oil or gas rigs, maintaining the engines. They are responsible for the main drill motor, the pumps and the generators.

Mechatronics Tradesperson

Mechatronics Tradespeople assist technicians and engineering staff to install, maintain, modify and repair mechatronic equipment and component parts.

Spinning Mechanic

Spinning Mechanics determine settings for machines that are associated with raw fibre through to finished thread such as wool and cotton. They arrange yarns on the machines and adjust machines to produce different types and thicknesses of yarn.
