This qualification reflects the role of individuals who have the primary responsibility of engaging the customer, maintaining daily store operations and delivering on organisational expectations. They have sound knowledge of product and service offerings. These individuals possess a range of well-developed skills where discretion and judgement is required. They work with some independence under limited supervision. Some individuals working at this level are responsible for supervising other team members and monitoring day-to-day workplace operations.
The qualification provides a pathway to work in a diverse range of retail settings including specialty retailers, supermarkets, department stores and quick service restaurants.
Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles such as frontline sales assistant, customer service representative, shop assistant, retail supervisor, team leader and senior sales assistant.

Sales Team Leader (Retail)
Sales Team Leaders have specific co-ordination or support responsibilities within a store team. They may provide in-depth product and service advice; build relationships with both customers and staff; lead small retail teams; operate retail information technology systems; and co-ordinate sales performance of the team.
Customer Service Representative
Customer Service Representatives provide advice and assistance to clients, and collect and input client data. They respond to telephone, written or face-to-face enquiries; resolve complaints; and promote and sell goods and services. They may work for a variety of businesses, including utility companies, financial organisations, or directory assistance services.
Retail Supervisor
Retail Supervisors are shop floor first line managers, with responsibility for supervising retail sales assistants and dealing with customer queries and complaints. They may supervise a point-of-sale area, lead teams, or act as an assistant to a manager.
Cashier
Cashiers receive and disburse money in establishments other than financial institutions. They are often involved in processing credit or debit card transactions and validating cheques.
Sales Assistant
Sales Assistants interact with customers, perform stock control and housekeeping duties, operate point of sale equipment and balance the register. They may work in retail or wholesale operations, or specialise in a specific industry such as clothing, footwear, bakery, newsagency, electrical and white-goods, supermarkets, department stores, etc.
Team Leader
Team Leaders lead teams, and oversee day-to-day operations in a variety of business environments. They build effective working relationships within their team, implement operational plans, and provide resources, guidance and information to team members.
Retail Assistant
Retail Assistants undertake a range of activities selling products and/or services in retail settings such as department stores, speciality shops, supermarkets and newsagencies. They may operate a checkout area; apply point-of-sale handling procedures; rotate and replenish stock and stack shelves; and organise and maintain work areas and displays.
