Course Description
This qualification reflects the role of individuals with well-developed skills and knowledge required to deliver recreational services. Using discretion and judgement, they work with some independence and under limited supervision using clearly defined plans, policies and procedures to guide work activities.
Specialisations are available for customer service officers, recreation officers, pool lifeguards and swim teachers but are not mandatory to achieve this qualification.
This qualification provides a pathway to work for any type of sport, aquatic or recreation organisation including commercial, not-for-profit, community and government organisations.
The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

Career Outcomes
Activity operations officer
Attends to the needs of clients and general users in sport and recreation activities including but not limited to the setting up, running, cleaning and pack up of sporting activities and recreation equipment.
Recreation Leader
Recreation Leaders plan, organise and coordinate recreation facilities and programs. These can range from sporting events and tournaments, to school holiday programs to arts and crafts activities. Their tasks can include developing proposals, apply for funding, finding venues, coordinating volunteers and running programs on the day. Recreation Leaders also work with community groups to help them to develop their own skills in these areas. Recreation Leaders are often employed by community recreation centres and local councils.
Recreation Officer
Recreation Officers plan, organise and coordinate recreation facilities and programs. These can range from sporting events and tournaments, to school holiday programs to arts and crafts activities. Sport and recreation attendant
Attends to the needs of clients and general users in sport and recreation activities including but not limited to the setting up, running, cleaning and pack up of sporting activities and recreation equipment.
Lifeguard
Lifeguards ensure the safety of the public when swimming or bathing at pools. They perform patrols, provide safety information, run educational sessions on water safety, and rescue those in need. They also perform first aid when required.
Swimming Teacher
Swimming Teachers provide instruction on how to swim to infants, toddlers, children or adults. They instruct clients in water familiarisation, buoyancy, water survival skills and swimming styles.
Leisure services officer
Attends to the needs of clients and general users in sport and recreation activities including but not limited to the setting up, running, cleaning and pack up of sporting activities and recreation equipment.
Community activities officer
Attends to the needs of clients and general users in sport and recreation activities including but not limited to the setting up, running, cleaning and pack up of sporting activities and recreation equipment.
