Support Worker (Community Services)

Support Workers or Care Workers provide a range of individualised person-centred support services to individuals or families. Workers carry out support with an orientation toward any of the following: mental health, homelessness, aged care, disabilities, youth work, victims of domestic violence or child protection.

Family Support Worker

Family Support Workers provide assistance through a range of community-based programs designed to address the social, behavioural, health, welfare, developmental and protection needs of families.

Information and Referral Worker

Information and Referral Workers provide information on community resources, and direct people seeking help to the agency providing the service they need.

Tenant Advice and Advocacy Worker

Tenant Advice and Advocacy Workers assist in providing tenants and residents (particularly those experiencing difficulties with their tenancies or residential services) access to information, advocacy and advice regarding their rights and responsibilities.

Domestic Violence Worker

Domestic Violence Workers provide support and accommodation to those who are escaping domestic violence situations. They present violence prevention and recovery programs to those in need of these programs.

Personal Adviser

Personal Advisers work in citizen advice bureaus and information referral services, assisting clients towards economic and social participation by referring them to service providers and to other resources within the community and also by monitoring their progress and records.

Case Worker (Community Services)

Case Workers in Community Services provide support, information and advice to clients on emotional, financial, recreational, health, housing and other social welfare matters. They may also evaluate and coordinate the services of welfare and community service agencies.

Outreach Officer

Outreach Officers are skilled in community development and health promotion. They provide services and interventions based on the needs of their clients.

Women's Health Educator

Women's Health Educators provide support and build on the capacity of local health staff to effectively implement women’s screening and women’s health programs within communities.

Court Support Worker

Court Support Workers assist clients applying for protection orders or making other applications, and explain the court legal processes. They may also provide support when a client needs to appear as a witness in court.

Aboriginal Health Education Officer

Aboriginal Health Education Officers provide a vital link between Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities, hospitals and medical services. They use their knowledge of Indigenous cultures to encourage people to manage their health.

Aboriginal Intake and Referral Worker

Aboriginal Intake and Referral Workers provide intake and referral services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people who require information or services, including assessment, solution based crisis intervention and case management of short-term clients.

Peak organisation worker

Peak bodies are organisations that align to a particular population or employment group and act on behalf of members to advocate, lobby government, contribute to policy development and develop standards. Workers may work in a variety of capacities and contexts.

Early Intervention Homelessness Worker

Early Intervention Homelessness Workers assist people with special housing needs or who find themselves made homeless. They determine whether an applicant is eligible for housing assistance and deal with immediate crises of individuals or families who are homeless.

Health Education Officer

Health Education Officers work with various groups to improve the health of individuals and the community. Their particular emphasis is on issues such as family, the environment, social change, nutrition, exercise, drugs and sexuality, focussing mainly on prevention.

Welfare Support Worker

Community Legal Officers provide information and advocacy to people in the community who need legal help. They are not qualified to offer legal advice.

Phone Advice Worker

Phone Advice Workers provide free telephone information and advice regarding rights and responsibilities in the areas of tenancy or work related matters.

Community Education Worker

Community Education Workers assist community groups to identify their needs, participate in decision-making and help to develop appropriate services and facilities.
