Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of workers with responsibility for designing, implementing and evaluating health and leisure activities, and programs for clients in one or more sector areas. Work may be in residential facilities and/or in community agencies and day centres. Workers work under supervision or as sole practitioners and may be required to plan, coordinate and evaluate other workers and work teams within broad but generally well-defined guidelines.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 240 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

Recreational Activities Officer

Recreational Activities Officers plan, facilitate and evaluate leisure and recreational activities in residential care homes, community agencies and day centres.

Diversional Therapist

Diversional Therapists provide recreational and leisure services for individuals in health care and in the community, to encourage them to take part in activities, assist in their social development, and promote a sense of wellbeing. In some areas a bachelor degree may be required.

Diversional Therapy Assistant

Diversional Therapy Assistants support Diversional Therapists in planning and delivering quality recreational and leisure activities to their clients. They encourage them to take part in activities, assist in their social development, and promote a sense of wellbeing.

Community Leisure Officer

Community Leisure Officers operate in residential facilities, community agencies and day centres assisting in the design, implementation and evaluation of health and leisure activities for clients.

Community leisure coordinator

Community leisure coordinators design, implement and evaluate health and leisure activities and programs for clients in one or more sector areas.

Recreational Activities Coordinator

Recreational Activities Coordinators design, implement and evaluate health and leisure activities and programs in residential care homes, community agencies and day centres.
