Marine Engineer (Class 1, 2, 3)
Marine Engineers control the engines and other equipment on ocean going vessels. The role includes supervision of installation and maintenance of equipment. An important task is to monitor emissions and engine waste in accordance with marine regulations so as to avoid pollution. The size of vessel determines the class of Marine Engineer licence and training required.
Engineer Watchkeeper
Engineer Watchkeepers are responsible for the safe operation of the engine room whilst on shift. The role includes monitoring the performance of engines and other equipment, routine and emergency repairs and general maintenance. Whilst on watch, accurate records must be maintained of engineering operations and related activities as well as incidents and emergencies.
