Band Leader

Band Leaders lead groups of musicians. They may lead groups such as brass bands, jazz bands, school bands and dance bands. They may provide creative direction.

Composer

Composers write and arrange original music and musical scores for performance by musicians.

Music Producer

Music Producers coach and guide musicians through recording sessions. They supervise recording and mixing and organise and produce a budget for productions/performances.

Music Publisher

Music Publishers buy the rights to musical works, approve or deny their use, and collect royalties. They market songs and link new songs by songwriters with suitable recording artists to record them. They may also publish sheet music of the works in their catalogues.

Instrumentalist

Instrumentalists use instruments to produce music. They will often be accompanied by musicians.

Music/Artist Manager

Music/Artist Managers are responsible for developing a band or artist's career and creating ongoing income. They are involved in all aspects career development, both creative and business. They advise on creative direction, performances and contracts; handle administration; and negotiate with music industry representatives on the artist or band's behalf.

Sound Designer

Sound Designers devise and create soundtracks for the music, theatre, film and television industries. They work closely with cast members, directors and bands to manipulate audio elements to achieve a desired effect. They may assist in recording and analysing acoustics, and direct speaker set-up.

Music Promoter

Music Promoters plan and direct the marketing and public presentation of artists, performances or musical products. An in-depth understanding of the music industry and market is necessary to carry out research on products, customers and sales.

Music Researcher

Music Researchers research and source music. They may work on projects such as television and film productions, commercials, events or in academic fields.

Musician

Musicians play music in recitals, as an accompanist, or as a member of an orchestra, band or other musical group. They study and rehearse musical scores prior to performances.

Vocalist/Singer

Vocalists/Singers use their voices to produce music. They will often be accompanied by musicians and instruments.
